Could you eat only one thing for an entire year? That’s just what 36-year-old Andrew Taylor is trying to do. After 40 days of eating nothing but potatoes, he says he’s lost over 30 pounds. And he’s loving it.

Cad5lWxWAAQbOxBAndrew, over 300 pounds at the beginning of 2016, opted for the spud diet after realizing he had an “unhealthy relationship” with food. “If you’re a drug addict or an alcohol addict, the solution is to quit cold turkey. Obviously you can’t do that with food,” he says. “So my next thought was ‘perhaps I can quit all food except one kind.’”

Andrew researched several diets before choosing potatoes. Since January 1st of 2016, he has eaten nothing but baked, boiled, shredded, and mashed white and sweet potatoes flavored with spices, herbs, and sauces.

Andrew says he feels “amazing” – so amazing that he plans to continue the odd diet for the remainder of 2016!

But that does not mean you should follow in Andrew’s footsteps.

image“There’s no real single food that provides all the nutrients that we need, other than maybe human breast milk,” a dietitian told CTV.

Andrew has his doctor’s support, however, and gets regular blood tests. He plans to discontinue the spud diet if his health is affected. Andrew is also taking extra calcium and B-12, but the potatoes are giving him more than enough iron, protein, vitamin C, and amino acids.

He isn’t even worried about getting sick of potatoes. Andrew says he is “quite happy with my boring potato meals.” You can check out his journey on YouTube.
